Readers of Runner’s World may have noticed a recent spat in the letters pages. Some upset seems to have been caused by a correspondent’s assertion that anyone who ran slower than 1 hour pace for ten miles might as well give up.
Of course, the opinions expressed there were solely those of Peter Kellam, Esq, and do not represent those of www.lescroupiers… yadda, yadda, yadda.
Peter has always been good enough to regard 6 minute miling as an indicator of poor form rather than a target pace, even with the difficulties associated with a job which involved several foreign trips a year. And to his credit, is the sort who speaks what he feels, not what he ought to say…

Eero and Sara were only with us for a short time, but they never tire of our company and they keep in touch, even sending us their Australian summer season’s pbs: Sara’s being 11.56 for 3k, and 5.34 for 1500: Eero’s being 16.15 for 5k, and 10.16 for 3k steeplechase.

Possibly the only member of the club who thinks that Andy Cleves is old, Ceri has even persuaded her dad to join. There was a time when the bar used to offer unlimited credit to any Croupier who could produce a parent. They’ll obviously have to rethink that one. Running Fitness magazine picked her as one of their team training for the London Marathon in 2002. She went to London where she was photographed and given lots of free gear.

If there’s a hard core among our women, Julie is certainly there. She may not share her husband’s devotion to the Bluebirds, but they are of one mind when it comes to running.

Also called Steven B Lewis, so as not to confuse him with the second Steve Lewis in the club. There are pictures showing the striking similarity of the two.
Steve is the secret power behind Richard Brewer’s attempts at 40 mile races.
Much as he cares for the club, and indeed, his wife Julie, and their children, we suspect that the real love of Steve’s life is Cardiff City FC.

A good bloke.

There was an old soak called Dave Lloyd,
Who frequently failed to avoid
Being locked in The Gower,
He had no will power,
We recommend Herr Docktor Freud.
Dave has taken the ‘most glamorous single parent in the club’ crown from Carol Miller (because she got hitched and ceased to be eligible). It’s something to do with his eyes, according to the regiment of women drawn like helpless moths to his flame. He is best known among the rest of us as the one who can handle a Sunday 20 miler after a session which would have killed an ox. (As oxen don’t have a reputation for bibulousness, I may need a better metaphor.)
His sister Siân is a weather girl, though he won’t thank me for saying so. Dave now merits a page of his own.
